The Beacon Farmers' Market mission is to feed and engage the Beacon Community, support local farms and businesses, and create a more just food system. The BFM is a year round outdoor market with up to 60 vendors per week. The market is open to the public most Sundays as follows:

Market Hours:
Sundays, 10am-2pm 
Summer Season: May - November
Winter Season: Dec-April 

About Newburgh Farmers’ Market
The Newburgh Farmers' Market mission is to feed and engage the Newburgh Community, support local farms and businesses, and create a more just food system.

Market Hours:

Summer Market: Saturdays, May - November, 10am to 3pm on the Safe Harbors Green, 97 Broadway
Winter Market: Saturdays, December - April, 10am to 2pm in the Lobby at the Ritz, 107 Broadway

Responsibilities
 

The Market Day Assistant supports the day of market operations of the Beacon Farmers’ Market every Sunday and assists with market operations of the Newburgh Market one Saturday per month. The position will report to the Market Manager. Responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting onsite operations on market days including setup and breakdown of tents, tables, signage, garbage cans, power cables, etc.

  • Assisting administrative staff on site at market as needed

  • Facilitating a positive market experience for vendors and shoppers

  • Monitoring and uphold market rules and regulations, as well as any regulations put forth by federal, regional, state, city and local governments

  • Staffing the market table to answer customer questions, distribute food benefits, and sell merch

  • Administering food benefit programs including ‘Greens4Greens’ coupons, SNAP/EBT tokens and FreshConnect checks 

Applicant Profile

A successful candidate:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Market mission and vision as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness  

  • Is willing and able to work in an outdoor environment and in adverse weather conditions 

  • Has the ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Is a collaborative and communicative team member

  • Continually promotes and achieves high standards of quality at work, applies attention to detail to the execution of all projects and constantly looks for problems to solve and ways to improve

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of people, including fellow staff members, market vendors, donors, and shoppers

  • Exhibits integrity, discretion, and professional maturity to effectively handle conflict

  • Candidates with Spanish language proficiency are highly encouraged to apply 

Work Environment 

The Market Day Assistant will work at the market, outdoors, in-person, in all weather types: rain, snow, shine! 

Schedule 

The position is mainly focused on the Beacon Farmers’ Market, every Sunday, 8:00am-3:00pm, PLUS 1 Saturday per month at the Newburgh Farmers’ Market (9-3 Winter, 9-4 Summer).

Compensation 

This position is part-time, and will be compensated at $16/hour.
